Cranbrook Academy of Art was founded in 1932 with the goal of integrating art and life. Guided by these ideals, the graduate 3D Design program at Cranbrook has earned a world-wide reputation as an experimental laboratory for exploring product form. For today's young designers, the form and function of Modernism is no longer sufficient. Today's products "function" by telling a story and demonstrating a specific cultural point-of-view in a product landscape crowded with choices. The 2004-05 student work in this show represents some of the ways that a new generation of Cranbrook designers are using stories and storytelling to integrate contemporary art, life, and design.
